About - Dr. Sapna Nangia :
Dr Sapna Nangia, graduate of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune and postgraduate in Radiotherapy from Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, works in the Apollo Cancer Institute, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
Prior to this, she was heading the Department of Radiation Oncology at the International Oncology Centre, Fortis Hospital, Noida. The department became operational in Jan 2010, and successfully administers IMRT, IGRT and stereotactic treatments.
Dr Nangia worked at Batra Hospital, New Delhi as Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology from 1998 to 2009. During her stint there, Dr Nangia established the Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) program, acquired vast experience in the use of IMRT; and published data in the use of IMRT for cancers of the Head & Neck and Prostate. IMRT is a technique that reduces the side effects of radiotherapy while allowing the tumour to be treated accurately.
Dr Nangia also has expertise in Brachytherapy for various disease sites - gynaecological cancers, soft tissue sarcomas and cancer of the tongue.
She also has a keen interest in teaching and has served as faculty in teaching programs & conferences conducted by the Indian College of Radiation Oncologists(ICRO), Foundation for Head Neck Oncology (FHNO) and Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, besides contributing towards the DNB Radiotherapy program of Batra Hospital.
Dr. Nangia is a member of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI) and the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) and did a short stint with the Army Medical Corps prior to postgraduation.
She has trained under the aegis of ESTRO in various advanced aspects of radiation treatment.She has been an observer at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre New York, Moores Cancer Centre, UCSD San Diego.and Montefiore-Einstein Centre for Cancer Care,New York.She has also attended the 2010 Stanford SBRT Symposium.
